I'd say that the hierarchy goes:

1) Movies only (this is the "purist's" Bacon number)
2) TV shows (regular credited role)
3) TV shows (one-off role)
4) TV shows (extra or filler)
5) TV commercials
6) Family member
7) friend
8) acquaintance
9) met them once

So perhaps we need some sort of Googlewhacking-esque scoring system?
Something involving lots of logs and raising to powers, so that a
"movies-only" number of 3 is better than a "one TV commercial link, one
family member link" number of 2 (or something).

Or, maybe, we don't need that at all....  hehehe.
