> Okay, I'll bite. How is it pronounced with properness?

speech majors can give you the proper terminology, but observe where your
tongue is as you form the sounds for the consonants n, d, and t in the words
know, dough, and toe

toronto is pronounced one of three ways:

  tron[n]o
"tron" as in the movie, "[n]o" as in know

  tron[d]o
"[d]o" as in dough, but the [d] is less solid

  tron[t]o
"[t]o" like toe, but the [t] is less crisp

only in extremely formal situations is it pronounced with three syllables,
but if so, there should no noticeable emphasis on the second of the three

the second t should never be clearly discernible -- it's somewhat like the t
in "i don't know" -- it's there, but you can barely hear it

you may hear rumours that toronto is pronounced "trawna" -- while this is
close, it is only ever uttered by americans
