Stop using Windows Media player for audio. I find Winamp and its
visualisations to be much faster and less of a resource drain (On my 266mhz
PII, 128mb RAM), and theres a lot of them iuncluded for free.

You might also like to try RealOne Player, which is at http://real.com/
IIRC, although thats becoming as big and bloated as Windows Media Player
IMHO.
