But that's by a combination of self-reported first language and "you live
in X country so you *should* speak Xish"

If you went by "Number of people who can speak it" (which is admittedly
much harder to estimate) then languages like Spanish which are widely
spoken outwith their native homes (particularly by learners) would go up
the list somewhat, compared to languages which are only spoken by the
obvious inhabitants plus emigres (say, Russian)
