is that a rhetorical question?  i could answer with some of the
smaller, tribal governments from matriarchal societies past and
present, but that's a cop-out and doesn't address your average 1st-
3rd world nation...

the US government no longer does it -- as a matter pf policy...
women got the vote, most laws banning women in some way have
been repealed, and even government-sponsored organizations take
heat for not letting women in (like the Boy Scouts)...

overwork and underpay is societal, not governmental (and last i
checked, the disparity was steadily decreasing).... the government
doesn't mandate longer hours and lesser wages...
