This reminds me of the time a couple of years back when Germany started a
scheme for more work visas for Indian IT workers. Despite that, very few
applied because of the perceived threats from racist elements. Sure, people
wanted to make money, but not when they feared for their lives.

Speaking of Germans, I remember a time about 13 years ago when my family
and I went on a vacation to a spot in the hills. I was about 14 then. At
our hotel was this German dude with whom I started chatting. Nothing
special, just regular chitchat. Then my father appeared and the German guy
tells him, "your children speak excellent English." My father raised an
eyebrow and gave him a "what's your point?" look. That cracked me up.

Er, no moral to the story. Just thought about that incident and decided to
ramble. :p
