secondarily, "those winter hats" like Santa wears?
IMO only santa and santa impersonators wear a santa hats.

"Stocking caps" that are knit and long like stockings.  Or knit hats.
I like knit hats with ear flaps.

Wasn't santa invented in, like, 1920 or something?
