Well, in my HS French class, we were told that 'adieu' literally means 'until God', something you would say to someone you would not see for a while, or never intend to see again. The more commonly used 'au revoir' is 'until I see you again'. Perhaps 'adios' also means 'until God'? > Adios means "not God"? c.
