No, in fact, among most long-time anime fans, the three Dragonball series
(Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT) are considered to be some of
the lowest of the low (at least for those who haven't seen the Tekken or
Street Fighter animes...or Ninja Resurrection). Expressing one's
admiration of DBZ in a public anime forum labels you immediately as a
"n00b" and opens you up to all manner of ridicule and insult.

It does not represent the best of anime, the fighting genre of anime, or
even the creator Akira Toriyama.

Personally, I don't hate Dragonball Z because it's Dragonball Z (many
people just bandwagon on hating it), I hate it because you can go 20-30
episodes at any given point in the series...and...accomplish...nothing. I
usually give a few more points to Dragonball for progressing the story once
in a while, but it's still pretty stupid. And Dragonball GT? I'd rather
not go there.

By the way, if anyone is just looking for generic information about any of
the series anyone's mentioned, you can find some good information at the
Anime News Network's Encyclopedia:

For example, here is the page on Dragonball Z:
