A friend of mine had a really funny incident last week.  He was
walking in the city centre at around 5 in the evening, when he
was held up at knife-point.The mugger wanted my friend to
handover the money in his wallet. So my friend takes out his
wallet and starts bargaining with the mugger.  Something on
the lines of :

"Look man, I have gotta pay my electricity bill today, otherwise
they'll cut me off.  Leave some for me to pay the bill".

So the mugger asks him how much the electricity bill is ?

Its around 2500 shillings(around $30).  So the guy takes a 1000
sh. from the wallet and returns 2500 to my friend, and makes
my friend promise that he wont shout "thief" after him.
("Citizen's justice" is quite common in kenya, if a thief is
caught , in some instances a mob will lynch him to death .
Typically,  a burning tyre around the neck -- no wonder the
mugger was worried.)

So my friend takes the money and the wallet and walks
away...end of story.
