Here's a true story about me and my friend (the other) Erika.
There are a lot of Erikas in Minneapolis don'tcha know.
It's a song/poem I wrote called "Dust Princess"
(or maybe 1987...)

-- about 10 years ago the Berman Buckskin Warehouse was torn down and
a bank erected in its place.

The dust princess said
Courtney changed her mind
moved in with Kat instead

I came along
I stayed for a time
in her palace of dust

It was a space
buckskin warehouse
Hennepin Avenue
Minneapolis

I lay on the wide wooden floor
watched the dust motes dance
in the shafts
of windowlight

In the night
the artists worked
safe from snow
smoking Marlboros

In the loft
I dreamt of fire...

On the top a room of leather
old moccasins
no one
put together

We made everything
out of leather
poetry of leather
laced together

Traces of leather...
leather dust...

It's all gone now
the buckskin warehouse
buried in snow

And the little clouds
shatter in the mirrors

the little pebbles
splash beneath the bridge

the little rats
crawl across the tracks
and the winos ride the boxcars of the night

dust princess knows
and she floats
burning spark in the morning windowlight.

dust princess knows
and she floats
burning spark in the morning windowlight.
