[thechat] Mac vid card problem

I'm trying to get a Cinema HD Display to work with a Mac that has a 2x
AGP slot (dual 450 MHz). The power light comes on, but no picture. I
have the first RADEON - is not a RADEON xxxx, just a "ATI RADEON 32
MB").

I spent all yesterday and today going Genius Bar hopping, calling
AppleCare and trying to track down the cards that were suggested
(RADEON 8500, GeForce2 MX).

As far as I understand, the motherboard doesn't give the AGP slot
enough power to to pass on to the monitor. My idea: The GeForce4 Ti is
8x AGP, but should be backwards compatible to 2x, so if I got one of
those the remaining problem is getting enough power to the monitor,
right? So it seems I could just run the signal out of the DVI port and
through one of those powered DVI to ADP adapters, and I'd have a video
card powerful enough to handle all 'dem pixels, and the monitor would
also get enough power. Would my idea work? Any other ideas other than
ordering a vid card on line?

This is really crushing my buzz as I need two monitors (or a mammoth
Cinema Display desktop) for the kind of work I'm doing to meet a Tues
deadline ... and I sold my 2nd monitor (a Studio Display which worked
great) at the same time I bought the Cinema display.

Must. Find. More. Pixels.
