Yeah, actually Rudy I like your date better, although I coulda sworn it
was '62...

I was thinking more along the lines of how and when it started, as
opposed to the point at which the current situation was cemented into
the foundations of global politics.

Ah, good old Nikita Sergeevich. What a guy. Shame old wobbly-chin
Brezhnev deposed him, but that's what you get when you're First Minister
of the Soviet Union, I guess. Still, at least he signed the Nuclear
Test-Ban Treaty, and made some way towards Nuclear non-proliferation,
which Brezhnev at least carried through with SALT and later SALT II.

Sigh. It's been more than a decade since I studied this stuff. Wish I
could remember some of the juicier bits.

So, when's Bush going to start taking on other superpowers instead of
third-world dustbowls? <quick glance at Taiwan on my desktop map>
