[thechat] satellite tv recording problem (Update)

Yeah, I took a long hard look at my decoder and it doesn't seem to have
any markings on it about brand/make etc. (I bought it second-hand, it was
quite used before that....)

I think its an older model there is no automatic change channel facility
(at
least I can't seem to locate one going through all the menus).

My satellite TV provider is now willing to sell me a new decoder, which has
the channel change functionality for a lot of $$.

However, I have found a solution that works fine and is way cheaper than
buying
a new decoder.

I hired somebody to change the channels and record the programs for me;
my apartment building's care taker is putting himself thru college, so for
the price
of a-couple-of-cokes-a-day and the use of my sofa he has agreed to record
all
the programs that I want, when I am away at work.

I have tried it for the last 2 days and it has worked perfectly, actually
even better
than using a newer decoder -- for instance, sometimes we have short power
outages in the afternoon at my place, if i had a timer recording setup it
would get
erased. With a human being around that problem is overcome.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!
