I think this sounds like the well known Chinese take-away appetiser
Sesame Toast.

I googled this artery clogging recipe:

Hey we even have Chinese takeaway web sites:

Some of my other "Chinese" favorites:

Prawn crackers (Har beng?) - puffed something with a hint of prawn that
sticks on your tongue before dissolving.

Pancake Rolls (jumbo are best) - lots of left over bits, wrapped in a
pancake and deep fired till crispy - the best bit is when you get to the
end and the last mouthful is mostly oil cupped in pancake....

And Sweet and Sour Pork Balls - the pork so chewy and the batter so
crisp with so much MSG that ten minutes after eating you can't sit still
for hours!

http://mings.biz/mings/index.htm - another web enabled takeaway!

And this one truly captures the genuine flavour of the UK's Chinese
take-away:

The TV to watch while you wait to collect your order, the calendar that
they give free to regular customers and the swinging door to the kitchen
through which bursts of raised voices and much wok bashing can be
heard...

Come on over David!
