i went to the New School for Social Research (or rejects, you decide), and
got a "BFA in jazz performance".
yeah that's right, somebody paid for that

it was much newer, and looser back when i was a student.
but i did take counterpoint from the renaissance through the baroque.
i had the one of the absolutely-most-scariest-professors for four-part
baroque.
he would go from desk to desk, pick up your homework, and read through it on
the spot (in his head). wincing, groaning, and "uh-oh, wait'll you guys hear
this".
personally, i never could read four-part sixteenth notes in my head....it
certainly was intimidating.
