Don't know about the very new ones, but my (now nearly 3 years old!) Canon D10
is as snappy as my Canon Film EOS - the only delay is the autofocus time, but
with the same lens, it's not noticeably different between the two bodies.
I also found this with my older Sony non-SLR digicam - if you'd pre-focused
it, the delay was noticeable, but not at all annoying.
