[thechat] Building a New House

I am in the process of closing the purchase of a new house. The house in
question is, in part, a 300-year old stone structure, built in the old
'Arab style' of domed rooms. Another bit of it is more modern but that
part must come down and be rebuilt. The domed rooms are structurally
quite sound, but the rest of the house is in ruins and the entire thing
must be redone--all new wiring, plumbing, flooring, windows, doors, etc.
etc.
Regarding the wiring, I was planning to add a few 'internal' wires from
my office. We have two VOIP lines and so I was thinking to run an
ethernet wire from my office to the kitchen along with two regular
telephone wires. Then my wife could plug in two phones there for VOIP,
in addition to our landline and also she could plug in the laptop that
she thinks I am going to buy for her one day. :)
Yes, we could use wireless for the laptop, but aside from the fact that
I am not a big fan of adding more electromagnetic radiation to our diet,
with an ethernet port there, we could easily add other devices there,
should we ever want to.
We might want in reality to put the VOIP box there maybe. And in 5 years
we might want to put the YOU_NAME_IT_THING_THAT_THEY_WILL_INVENT box
there as well.
Anyhow, that's my plan as far as wiring.
Anybody have any other bright ideas?
Hershel
