Hi Gang,

One of my grandsons, (who has obviously never REALLY listened to me play), has decided he wants to come over to Paw-paw's on a regular basis for some guitar lessons! Woooot!

;-)

Okay. The kid is 6. I have an ancient (and fabulous sounding) 3/4 size Gibson acoustic strung with very light gauge strings sitting around for him to use.

Now what do I do?

I would _like_ to start him off in the middle of the neck. Instead of frustrating him trying to sound a clean note on the 1st fret, I'd like to start him off on the 5th or 7th fret or so. I'd like to make this 'fun' instead of 'torture' ... at least in the beginning anyway. Once he gets some callouses and finger strength, then we can move him back down to first positron.

Are there any 'New Skool' beginner books that support this kind of approach? Some 'son of Mel Bay' books or something? How about an on-line feature in PowerTab Editor maybe?

Something/anything that means I won't have to wrestle for hours trying to figure out how to transcribe "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" into the middle of the neck? Please?

Huge (Walk that Bass Line) Thanks,
RonL.

(Hmmm ... If I throw a capo in the middle of the neck, will that help lessen string tension any? Then he could play in first position in the middle of the neck! Dagnabit! I ought to know the answer to that - I just never fool with my dang capo anymore ... I will 'speriment with it.)

nw: Born to Boogie (per E's suggestion - it just took me a while to get around to it!)
