we're diverting from the purpose of this thread, but i feel i need to
address your comments as they clearly indicate you did not read my entire
response.

so what if it's a production service. what i have there (the /code/
section) is intended as a benefit to the community. the fact that i also
have my resume there is it was simply easier to post a resume on the
frontpage so people would know who the "mysterious .jeff" is behind all the
helpful tidbits rather than trying to write up an "about the .jeff" page.

the problem with not allowing longterm redirects is there are literally
*hundreds* of links in discussion list archives to tidbits on the /code/
section. ergo, you're advocating linkrot to valuable content (not talking
about my cv here) in order to save money on an unknown amount of bandwidth.

before we just totally can the service (rather than offer some longterm
things i'm asking for), can we please get some hard and fast numbers about
actual bandwidth usage?

i can't speak for the bandwidth email forwarding would incur. however, with
regard to bandwidth used by redirects it'd be hardly measurable.

done. i just donated $20 i didn't really have to spare. marlene can
attest. moving on?

i care. see above.
