I think I might be too.   ;-)

Tiny urls are a good idea ... I like them myself ... but they are not 
a foundational element of the architecture of the web. They appear to 
be a service made available by a few dedicated hobbyists.

But I think it points to the fact that 'TinyURL.com' is just one young 
guy in Minnesota with a good idea. There is no guarantee that next week 
or next year he won't get tired of fussing with the spammers or footing 
the expense and just shut everything down.

Tiny urls implemented through an evolt table and redirect would give 
us control over the longevity of the link.

I think that's a better way to go.
