Actually, the first could, the second would be better handled by the rewrite
rule mentioned next.

Yes, URLs on the site used to end with /evolt.org.  Ugh, wasn't my idea.

Absolutely agree on both points.  The only reason I bring up support for the
older style with the variable "directory" is that there *are* a myriad of
links hitting the same page now and it'd be appropriate to support them all.
