Just an update on this issue.  I've upped the max. incoming connections
to 40 (added 10).  It looks like this has alleviated the problem at the
expense of increasing the load at times.  The quickest way to check for
problems is by telneting to port 25 on lists.evolt.org.  If you get the
ESMTP greeting immediately, everything is okay.  (Remember to log out
quickly so you don't tie up qmail-smtpd.)
