hi isaac

nobody else answered!? the question must've been too long ;o)

in order for this to work, you need to evaluate each product in each of the
dimensions -- in your case these are cost, time, and speed

the 1 to 5 scale is fine

so each product will have a score, like 3,4,2

as for the questions that you want people to answer, just remember, the
fewer words the better

me, i'd use three sets of five radio buttons

and all on the same page

the questions would be like this --

   COST
what are you prepared to spend?
( ) whatever it takes for top of the line
   ( ) plenty of money
   ( ) i'll pay for value
   ( ) i suffer from sticker shock
   ( ) on a real tight budget

and assign values of 1 to 5 to the choices

the way i like to tackle a problem like this is to imagine how it might
work on a handheld, not because i think that'd be cool (people walking
around with electronics are posers) but because it forces you to think
about the message if you constrain yourself to a few lines, a few words...

and of course let them make all three choices on the same page before
pushing the "what product does this equate to" button

helps?

hey, instead of radio buttons, how about some nice slidey thingies?

had to throw that in there, just to show i'm not a complete
function-kicks-ass-form-can-take-a-hike freak
