How long is too long? If it's a DW issue, then try Fetch:

If it's a Unix server, you could set a link between the file everyone else sees
and the 'real' file you upload:
ln short.html veryveryveryveryveryveryloooooooooong.html

so you upload short.html, and whenever you update it, the server will
ensure that veryveryvery....loooooooooong.html is also updated.
