Having some background in photography, I can only attempt to really address
this on a very high, non-detailed level:

(I have a pretty vague memory of high school as well so I guess those
lessons didn't help much;)

'Member the spectrascope? It separates the colors in light? Each color is
actually "created" from a different wavelength.. or differentiated by a
difference in wavelengths.. Red is greater/stronger than violet and so on..
The best I can say is that each has a different resulting temperature as
well..
