In photography, "color temperature" is a term to evaluate the
quality/kind of your light, based on the following:
If you heat a solid substance, let's say a piece of metal, it will start
producing light, red light, to be accurate. The more heat you apply, the
light will increasingly turn to white and finally to blue. Color
temperature is measured in Kelvin degrees, those reached by light
emitting heated substance, and for practical uses, the scale goes from
2000 K, the average candle light, to 20,000 K, beyond the blue sky
*around 10,000 K*, being the most important reference (on photography
standards) the 5,400 K of average midday sunlight. So, lowering your
monitors' color T, is basically adjusting the colors towards blue.
