Where were you when I needed them?  *grin*  I sat down and
pieced together 30-some screenshots from mapquest (for personal
non-web use). *chuckle*

If your text keeps losing its color in netscape, it's because
NN4x has problems with inheritance in tables.  Try specifying a
color in each of <P>, <TD>, <UL>, <LI> (do them both),
<BLOCKQUOTE> and <DIV>.  Apparently we don't -really- need the
"CASCADING" part of CSS.
