If you're trying to access a protected directory, add a trailing slash to the end of your URL. So... www.mydomain.com/protected will trigger the uid/pw dialogue box twice but www.mydomain.com/protected/ will trigger it only once. There's a technical reason why this is, but I forget it. HTH.
