Maybe it's time to get rid of your POTS and go for a faster trunk line.
Cable or DSL come to mind.
Or just go for the booty and a T-3.

I've seen this when my poor old telephone lines just can't quite stay 
connected well enough for data transmission /and/ when my 4-year-old has 
managed to mess up my settings and passwords. I think I have a 
hacker-in-training? Now, if he could just put Linux on here. Hope I don't 
have to wait until Kindergarten!
