Thanksgiving and vacation aside, I've remembered what these things are...

<tip type="moving the offices">
Before the move:
* Spend the money, have movers move everything except the computers
* Give yourself a month-to-two-month lead time in establishing
network/telephone connectivity and BEWARE: if you're moving DSL service, the
phone company may be a pain in the ass, worse than when you had it installed
in the first place. Make sure the phone service is in your company's name,
otherwise you might not get the line(s) moved in time
* The sooner you pack, the better. Especially since the day of the move
you'll be running around with your head cut off moving all the servers and
stuff
* A day or two before the big day, make sure your backups are up to date and
usable --you /do/ run test restores, don't you?
* While those backups are running, cause some trouble around the office and
take some network gear over to the new location and make sure you can get
connected without problems

The day of the move:
* Have tons of tissues, you'll be kicking up dust, and if anyone is fighting
the flu or has allergies, there'll be lots of sneezing goin on
* Workstations first, then wire up the patch panel and hubs --DO A NEAT JOB!
You have the chance to make it look nice, take it. Move the servers last.
* DON'T look at this as a prime opportunity to upgrade your server to
SuperSoftware3000 --you *will* cause problems. Just move them. This is no
time for software changes
</tip>

and with that...
