Almost all do... well over 90% of consumers have some form of the
Macromedia Flash Player installed.

If you're detecting anything these days it would likely be the version.
Most people use IE/Win, and this can auto-update its controls. For other
browsers you can use the "_version" property, to whichever end you choose.

But instead of micro-managing detection, it's usually easier to just show
the stuff, with a link for "Got problems? You need a new Player". When the
majority have the ability the dynamics change a little.
