most of the time, the reason i exert a lot of effort to make pages look the
same in older browsers is not because i want it that way -- it's because the
client demands it. i once tried to sell a client on the idea of "gracefully
degrading." result: "but why don't i see the background picture?"
accompanied by an uncomprehending, resentful stare...
