[thelist] restoring IE5.5

Hi..
I'm not a Windows person and I am at my wits end with this. I mistakenly
installed some "critical updates" to Windows 98 and now whenever I use IE5.5
to access a site with Flash content the browser crashes and a dialog box
says it has performed an illegal operation and must be closed down..

Okay... I deleted anything I could find with flash or shockwave in the name,
removed anything that I could see as being IE, even tried to hack the
registry..(ouch)
Reinstalled to system from the installation disk, and completely
re-installed IE to no avail.

Since I have Flash content on my site and most of my users have IE5.5, this
kind of sucks..

Anybody know how I can make this work again?
