Don't put your .LDF file on a RAID 5.  The .LDF file is the log file for
your database, and get's written to constantly.  Because RAID 5 is designed
for redundancy, it takes a performance hit when getting written to.

Dedicate a fast SCSI drive with it's on SCSI controller for your .LDF file,
and you'll see a significant performance increase.
