Have a slow connection? Pay by the minute for calls? Don't like
most of the images on most sites?
I just re-installed Navigator 3.04 at home. It's much easier to surf
with images turned off that way, it's just more natural to use a 5
year old browser to surf the way you did 5 years ago. And it has a
button on the toolbar to load images when you want to see them.
Some of like to use newer browsers, however.
Browsers still allow you to view pages *without* downloading the
pictures.
In IE4 and IE5 select from the menu Tools > Internet Options >
Advanced. Scroll down to 'Multimedia' and de-select 'Show
Pictures.' When you want to see a picture, just right-click the
image on the page and select 'Show Picture.'
In Navigator 4.x, select Edit > Preferences. Scroll down to
'Advanced' and deselect 'Automatically Load Images.' It is worth
noting that it is not as easy to get images to download on
command as it is in IE, and the page will have to redraw to handle
it.
In Netscape 6.x (no longer named Navigator) select Edit >
Preferences. Scroll down to 'Advanced' and expand the options if
they aren't already. Under 'Advanced,' choose 'Images.' Select 'Do
not load any images.' You cannot load images while viewing the
page without forcing a redraw, just as in Navigator.
In Opera 5, select File > Preferences and scroll down to
'Multimedia.' Deselect 'Show all images.' Opera 5 also allows you
to download an image as IE does, so viewing individual images is
much easier.
