Is it possible to use getlastmod() in reference to one of several included 
PHP files?

I have a file, index.php, which is a composition of a couple other files. 
One of the included files is called 'contents.html.'  I'd like to use 
getlastmod() to display the last-modification date of 'contents.html,' but 
it will only give the date for 'index.php.'  Is there a (different?) way 
to get the relevant date in reference of 'contents.html'?  Does this 
paragraph make any sense at all?
