Just so.

But with the <nobr> it's cleaner, and easier for people without html
skill to update.

The original question was about phone numbers - in which case (for U.S.
formatted numbers)  it would *not* work.

Robert&nbsp;Smith: (555)555-1212

Browsers see that "-" and think -- "hey! I can break the line there if I
need to!" -- with <nobr> or the css method

For international numbers you could still do:

+1&nbsp;003&nbsp;345&nbsp;000

(I think).
