You need to create shares on your drives, or map to C$ or D$
on your desktop, right-click on Network Neighborhood and select "Map Network
Drive"
then type in the path
\\computername\C$
to connect to drive C, or substitute D$ for D, etc.
You may be prompted for a username and password... but that should be it

Subject: [thelist] Home networking help - Win98

Memo from Martin P Burns of PricewaterhouseCoopers

-------------------- Start of message text --------------------

Yeah, I'm new to all this - it's always been done for me (although
I have vague recollections of setting up a Windows for Workgroups
system very quickly and easily).

OK, I have 2 Win98 machines for now, connected by a hub (and
then onto my cable modem provider via a Linksys router).

Machine 1 has machine name Vaio and is in workgroup Office.
It has "share my resources" set up with resource-level permissions.

Machine 2 has machine name Dell_boy and is in workgroup
Office, and can see Vaio via Neighbourhood Network.

How do I get Dell_boy to be able to read/write Vaio's harddrives?

I would have thought that I'd be setting passwords on Vaio's drives,
but I can't find anywhere to do that.

(once that's working, I'll start worrying about printsharing, and setting
up my Linux box as a Samba fileserver)

Cheers
Martin
