most sql databases allow (mysql for example) you to dump the entire
structure and data of your database into a text file with a single command.
this file can then be downloaded off the server where you can import it to
your desktop sql server for updating, or archiving. now, admittedly, if you
then upload this file you will clobber any online updates that took place
after you first downloaded it, but if the site isn't live yet, this is
definitely the way to go. ;)
