I've watched several new computer users surfing the web and noticed that
they all get totally lost when a new window opens.

The first two things you learn on the web are:
    1. you click the blue text to go places,
    2. you click the back button to go back.

If you make your links open in a new window the user might not realise that
a new window has opened, and won't understand why the back button isn't
working.

Anyone who is familiar enough with the web to want a new window, will open
it themselves using a right-click or shift-click. Don't think you're doing
the user - or yourself - any favours by opening a new window.
