One additional note on NotePad ... if you're across the hall or across the
planet trying to help someone 'de-munge' some code ... you can pretty much
count on NotePad being available [on a Win-whatever platform anyway] ...
these folks may not want you to download "furrin" editors onto their system
or they may not want to wait to tackle the problem until you've run down to
the local software shoppe, bought something, and come back to install it. In
those cases NotePad can be pretty darn handy.

Not that I'd put it on my resume.
