FP Extensions/Client are one of the two ways to use WebFolders, the
other being Apache's webDAV module. You also need IE5+ installed. The
FPEx/Client creates the password/protected directories (subwebs) that
Web Folders logs into.

With WebFolders you can do mass sequential file transfers through secure
SSL instead of insecure FTP. You can also do file transfers from inside
any windows app without opening anything but the open/save dialog. For
secure file transfers by someone other than the server admin, who could
use SSH FTP.
