mark,

: From: Mark Cheng
:
: The site is WaSP designed and has a redirect
: - could a couple of people hit the site with
: non Wasp browsers so I can be sure it is
: working pls?
:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

hit the site with nn3. js errors all over the place. your inline style tag
content was displayed as plain-text in the page content.

hit the site in nn4. in both nn4 and nn3, the site logo is completed
distorted because it's width is set to 100%, therefore taking up the entire
width of the browser window. in both browsers, the mining picture is quite
a bit larger than in ie5.

in neither case did i ever get a redirect or a message displayed somewhere
on the page explaining why it was so badly broken for the browser i was
using.

i'm curious why you've chosen to design the site following the wasp
initiative. do you care whether or not you will alienate your users?

:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
: I need to go back and cut down on the image sizes,
: - this is slowing down the loading of the pages,
: particularly in NS6.
:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

all images should be resized and optimized to the sizes they will be
displayed on the site to minimize the filesize as much as possible.

file and directory names should *never* have a space in them -- newbie html
mistake #1.

: Comments are also very welcome - to keep these
: in context, the site is targeted at high
: bandwidth corporate users.
:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

what, specifically, is there about the site that is targeted at high
bandwidth users? when i look at the site all i see is strategically
placed/styled/bordered text and a few images. there's nothing in it that
shouts "high bandwidth" to me.

what have you done to target this site at corporate users? the
red/white/blue color scheme? the text block borders? the overlapping
imagery? the powerpoint-ish text fly-ins and fade-in transitions? to make
it more professional looking, the first thing you need to do is drop the use
of times new roman in your copy. go to a sans-serif font of some variety
instead. it will be easier to read onscreen and look crisper/more
professional. drop the use of images that scale with the resolution. it's
an interesting concept, but impossible to achieve with any sort of quality
with raster based images.

do you know what browsers these corporate users are likely to be using? be
very careful of making the assumption that these users have the
latest/greatest computers/browsers. some companies are running
[hard/soft]ware that has continued to work for them. some of this software
includes nn3 browsers -- surprisingly enough.

just my 2pence,
