[thelist] PHP - Variables in a literal string

Sorry, I should have been more clear - that's not what I meant. I know about
the difference between double and single quotes. The problem is that the
literal string 'I would like to say $foo' is taken from a text file, it's
not set in the PHP code. As I said, the example was only for simplicity's
sake.

I'm stuck with that literal string, that's a fact. I was wondering how to
force PHP to parse it.
