It was a PaperPort file in this case, downloaded the suggested viewer and was able to view and print the file. Maybe this should bring up a tip...(which those of us in this group would know, but it bears saying)

When scanning a file do not save the file in the proprietary file format for the scanner UNLESS it is a widely know and used file format. Nearly everyone can view GIF's and JPG's, not so with system specific files.
