A 'hit' is a request for a file while a page view is well, a page view :)

So, when you visit www.evolt.org/index.html thats one page view and 7 
'hits', because the page is made up of 6 images and an HTML file for a 
totall of 7 requests for files or hits

When you visit http://www.evolt.org/evolt_images/index.html its still 
one page view and 11 hits because there are more images on that page..
