Haven't tried either, but I've looked at Phorum. If I have any luck with

I tried that one too and it was not very good. I prefer
http://phpwebsite.appstate.edu/ -- it's pretty nice and XHTML-compliant.

But, if he wants just the BB part, what about http://phorum.org/ -- I was
able to install that pretty quick and it appeared customizable, but I
haven't gotten around to it yet.
