I think so.

Go into a bar and they will have 30 brands of cold beer, 5 of them
on tap. They will have seven brands of vodka, 4 brands of gin, 2
brands of irish whiskey. How many colas will they have? One.

That's because, although people may care whether they get Coke
or Pepsi, they don't care *enough* to go someplace that has what
they want. They'll gladly accept a substitute.

Did Pepsi sales drop when Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire?
Do Christine Aguilera and Britany Spears actually sell pop? No.

In grocery stores, the brand that's cheaper will *always* outsell
the brand that isn't. In convenience stores, the brand that is easier
to reach will *always* outsell the brand that isn't. And if there are
vending machines side by side, it's often got more to do with one
machine displaying "deposit exact change" than anything else.

The IRS doesn't tax the pride you feel in your work, and
potential customers *will* see the difference, which *can*
drive up your tax bill (because you're *making* more). So
taking the effort to do the job right instead of "phoning it in"
makes sense.

But keep perspective about it. Television ads evaporate in
60 seconds. Today's newspaper holds tomorrow's coffee
grounds. Even billboards are rented by the month. Websites
aren't supposed to be forever.

Dance like nobody's watching, love like you can't get hurt,
and code like web lives on internet time....
