[thelist] sending mail with xmail server

Hey,
Yeah, I know it is a bit broad. The problem is I don't have a whole lot
of info. Basically, I want my computer to be a fully independent mail
server. I have it set up to recieve mail, but I also want it to be able to
send mail without having to use any other servers, like another SMTP server.
The problem I was having, I could send mail through it if i sent it to an
address xmail was set up to recieve. So, xmail is set up to recieve mail
for mydomain.com. If I sent an email message to john at mydomain.com through
xmail server, the message was picked up by xmail server and put in the
appropriate mailbox. If, however, I tried to send it to a different
address, such as this one, theraven at san.rr.com, the mail would end up in a
loop, and an error message would be sent back to the
postmaster at mydomain.com. Now, I can use the smtpgw.tab file and route all
mail through an external smtp server, such as smtp-server.san.rr.com, but I
don't want to have to do that. As I said, I want my computer to be fully
functional without the help of any other servers. I would tell you more
about my xmail configuration, but I really have no idea what would be
relavent to tell you about. So basically I need to know what elements are
involved in sending mail, and how to properly configure them to send mail
from xmail server. I hope that helps clarify what I need. I will point out
that I have been able to send mail from my server, just not through xmail.
I can use the IIS smtp server and a CDONTS object to send mail. I
understand that that smtp server is really not the best, and I think it
would be better if I am going to have a lot of email traffic to use xmail to
handle this. Correct me if I am wrong though... Thanks for the help.

John

You're not being very clear about what exactly you want to
do with XMail. If you've got more details I'd love to hear
them - this query's just way too broad to get a useful
response...
